International Symposium on Regional Carbon Cycle

&

The 11th Annual Meeting of USCCC

July 7-11, 2014, Lanzhou, China

Sponsors:

US-China Carbon Consortium (USCCC) & ChinaFLUX

Organizers:

Lab of Remote Sensing and Information Resources for Cold and Arid Regions, Cold and Arid Regions Environmental and Engineering Research Institute (CAREERI), CAS; and Heihe Remote Sensing Experimental Station, CAS

Background &Objectives:

The carbon cycle is one of important biogeochemical cycle in Earth system, which is tightly coupled with climate change. As two largest CO2 emitters, China and USA face great challenges in reducing CO2 emission and enhancing carbon sequestration.  This requires jointed efforts from not only leaders of both countries but scientists across the Pacific. In order to provide scientific base for carbon emission and sequestrations, both USCCC and ChinaFLux are committed to gain better understandings of regional carbon cycle by promoting data sharing, cross-site syntheses, and cross-country collaborations. This symposium aims at updating our progresses in this field and to promote academic interactions among members of USCCC, ChinaFlux and other relevant stakeholders.

Themes:

·         Regional and international syntheses of ecosystem flux data

·         Flux monitoring and model fusion for carbon-climate coupling

·         New technologies for ecosystem and regional carbon cycle studies

·         Uncertainties in the modeling ecosystem carbon and water fluxes

·         Challenges and opportunities in large-scale carbon and water flux research

Venues:

Lanzhou, the capital of Gansu Province, is a city which is settled in the arms of the mountains and rivers. It is the only capital city with the Yellow River passing through. Lanzhou is the political, economic, and cultural center of Gansu Province, the gateway to the vast northwestern China, and an important point on the Silk Road that linked China's ancient capital Xi'an with Central Asia and the Roman Empire.
